Berklee College presented winning performers Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake with an honorary doctor of music degree for their worldwide impact and accomplishments in music.
Missy Elliott, a Virginia native, has a Grammy-winning and nominated list that spans across three decades, the first female hip hop artist to be inducted in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the only female rapper to have two albums certified at RIAA platinum or better.
Justin Timberlake, formerly of the pop group N’SYNC, accomplishments include being voted as TIME’s “most influential people in the world’ twice, 10 Grammy awards, and successful selling solo albums.
Elliott and Timberlake both followed the tradition of performing their biggest hits on stage prior to receiving their honors. Music icons Aretha Franklin and Smokey Robinson are among the past recipients of Berklee’s honorary doctorate of music degree.
Cheers to Dr. Missy Elliott and Dr. Justin Timberlake !!
