WNBA Legend Lisa Leslie Becomes First Woman To Be Honored With Staples Center Statue

Legendary basketball star Lisa Leslie will be the first woman to ever receive a statue in the Star Plaza surrounding the Staples Center arena.

The Anschutz Entertainment Group and Leslie’s former Los Angeles Sparks WNBA team have agreed to move forward on plans to memorialize the icon.

Leslie’s accomplishments include being a four time Olympic Gold Medalist, two-time WNBA champion, three time WNBA MVP, along with eight All Star wins and three All Star Game MVP acknowledgements. Leslie is also known as the first woman to ever dunk in WNBA.

Leslie’s statue will join the already honored likes of Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Chick Hearn, and Elgin Baylor.
