RICHMOND, VA–After polls were tallied on Wednesday night, former Secretary of the Commonwealth Levar Stoney is the new Mayor for the city of Richmond.

Stoney, a 35 year old Democratic Party politician, won the local election with over 35,000 votes in comparison to his second runner up opponent, Jack Berry with over 33,000 votes.

The third standing competitor for Mayor, Joe Morrisey, came in with over 20,000 votes despite being jailed last year on charges for sexual relations with a minor, who has since become his wife.

Although Stoney had already overwhelming won through popular votes, there were about 9,000 absentee votes left to take into account. Stoney’s win has been accredited to a majority of millenial and college student aged voters.
