ALEXANDRIA, VA–A Virginia man has pleaded guilty in attempting to assist the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as a solitary attacker on both Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. areas.
According to the U. S. Attorney for the Eastern district of Virginia, Dana Boente, the identity of the man is 26-year-old Haris Qamar of Burke, VA.
Qamar openly discussed, with a now confidential FBI witness, ISIL’s need for photos of locations in Alexandria as well as Washington landmarks such as the Pentagon. The pictures were to be displayed in a video distributed by ISIL to promote the attacks.
Since it’s apparent that Qamar’s main source of communication was through social media, FBI authorities are concerned with the risk of easy access with such organizations.
