Hailing from Eastern Shore, VA, Carnage45 has made his imprint in the rap industry. With his emphasis on lyricism and quality, Carnage45 continues to elevate his listeners through his words while setting his self apart from his peers. Listen to Carnage45′s latest track as a tribute to hip hop’s own Guru.
1. How long have you been rapping? I wrote my first rhyme 10 years ago but I didn’t start actually recording songs until 7 years ago.
2. When did u realize you wanted to be a rapper? And who were your musical influences? The very first time I heard Nas – “I Am” changed my life. The narratives took my mind on a trip like no other collection of music ever had before. I always had a strong love for music but that album made me want to rap but, I didn’t actually start recording until like 5 years after that. I can say all meaningful lyricists influence me from the 80′s to present day.
3. How did u start your career? I started by word of mouth, then Vega and I put together a series of I.N.E. mixtapes, then as I grew as an artist and built a catalog I decided that I was ready to perform.
4. What do you do now to maintain relevance as a rapper? It’s a couple of things I do but I try to keep a continuous web presence most importantly. As an indie artist I’m not on TV and radio on hourly rotation like a major artist. So the use of the internet to keep my name alive outside of my local market is neccesary because if I was limited to just Virginia my level of success would be limited.
5. Do you plan to remain independent or would you sign to a major label if given the opportunity? I once had a situation that could have put me on a major but it was at the expense of compromising my art. If a label is willing to let me be free as an artist and really promote like they used to I would sign. You only get one chance to make a first impression and if it’s a bad one due to others in control the odds are against you when you drop again. I’ve seen it happen too often.
6. How would you describe your style of rapping? If comparable, who would u compare yourself to? My style of music is insightful. I try to bring the listeners into my world or tell a story that people can identify with. I try to point out my struggles and triumphs because we all see highs and lows in life. I really can’t compare myself but I have been told that I sound like Cormega because of my voice. I’ve even had people that know him personally say the same. He did his thing in the game but I would love to go head up with him on a record. Not in the form of a battle but just a song and let the people speak their minds.
7. Are you a part of a rapping team (of solo artists) or are you solo? The Future is really a team of soloists. We all got our own lane and fanbase so why not bring it all together? After we did the “Say Hello To The Future” record the demand for us to make more records together picked up. Now we have a project in the works. Since being aligned with Thadd Williams, A. Driver, and Intalek I have learned a lot from just observing. I respect those guys outside of music as well.
8. Where can my readers hear/buy your music and see your videos? The easiest way would be to just do a google search on my name. I’m all over the place. If you want to get records and videos before that hit the blogs follow me on twitter or add me on facebook.
9. Any events/performances/concerts coming up? I’m currently working on booking shows in Chicago, LA, NY, and throughout Virginia within the next few months. I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted.
10.What does the future look like for Carnage45? Hopefully stages, hotels, and airports!
